I just had a new trane 3.5 ton 15 seer heat pump installed in a 2032 square foot home.?
I live in northern Florida and we have been having cold nights here. The new heat pump is acting like the old one by putting out cold air. Also, the return vent is making lots of noise when system is heating. And, this blower must be stronger because it is blowing debris out of the vents. Can anyone help me?
Question for you:
Do you have electric back up heat installed?
If not then then by design with out the back up electric heat that pretty normal with a heat pump.
Now, with the new system installed, the back up heat may have been an extra option an add on. If you had this option you should have on your thermostat a setting for Emergency heat or Aux heat (same thing). That would turn on the back up electric heat.
Now, they way it suppose to work with a heat pump is that when the heat pump cant keep up the temp ( due to it being colder than say 30 degrees) the supplemental heat (emergency heat) will kick on to assist in the temperature. IF the heat pump were to fail the emergency heat is there for the user to switch over at the thermostat to allow heat until the heat pump can be repaired.
I suspect you either have no electric back up heat, either the blower is set to High (by default from factory is set on Med speed) single stage blower. And you may have insufficent duct work size and return problems. If you went from a 3.5Ton to a 3.5Ton the duct work should not be an issue but its a possibility. Also, not knowing the age of the home its quite possible that some of the duct work is deteriorating and or it left over debris from the install. Either way it not good news, if its coming out of vents its has to pass though the evaporator coil, and what cant pass though will plug up the coil. So that will need to be looked at. You may have a air flow restriction. With out being there in person Im just think what it "can" be and what is going on. I hope that may shed some light on the issue. If the company seemed decent who installed it you might call them to come out and express your concerns with the issues.
