What is the cooling capacity of a reverse cycle (heat pump) air conditioner?
I was told that heat pump air conditioners are only able to lower the temperature around twenty degrees. Is this correct? I leave my thermostat at seventy five degrees. By six o'clock the temperature outside is usually in the high 90s, or very low 100s, and the unit will only cool my house down to 80 degrees and runs continuously. Is this all I can expect from my reverse cycle air conditioner?
The temperature difference that a heat pump or any other conditioning system is able to maintain depends upon the rated capacity of the unit and the heat load that it is subjected to.
A regular air conditioning system or heat pump system rated at 1 1/2 tons and installed in a residence could be able to maintain a 25 degree or even greater temperature difference quite easily if the house cooling load is small enough. Otherwise, for a larger house, it may struggle to maintain a 20 degree difference. It all depends on the installed capacity of the unit and the actual load put upon it.
Perhaps your actual cooling load is higher than the rated capacity of the installed unit ??
