Why is there oil around the area of my A/C coil in my home?
The oil is near the high pressure and suction line. I've had several problems with this newly installed A/C system in my two story home. The system seems to be blowing cold air, but it runs all day and I personally think it COULD be blowing colder air. The suction line isn't sweating anywhere however it is somewhat cold... I've had the installer come out twice and the second time he tightened the TXV because it was sweating. Now the TXV isn't sweating however the nut where it is attached to the actual coil is. Any input would be great. Should I call this guy and tell him something is wrong?
It has (or had) a refrigerant leak. The compressor cooling and lubricating oil travels freely with refrigerant, so when you get a refrigerant leak, you commonly get some oil leaking as well. This will actually help the technician find the leak when you call him to fix it. When he is done, he should wipe up any residual oil so that it isn't mistaken for a leak location should you ever have another one.
