Home Builder not following contract specs SEER 14 vs SEER13 ac system?
Our new home is almost done and our contract states that a see14 ac system is to be installed. When we checked the tags on the system it clearly states that it is a seer 13 system. When asked our builder states that some components have been upgraded to achieve the seer 14 rating--not to worry and he will provide a dealers certificate stating the 14 rating. We are having a hard time accepting this explanation--please any advice as to how to proceed--thanks in advance!!
You have a contract..use it to your advantage...You ordered 14 seer..get 14 seer..I wouldn't let them upgrade/change componants on a new unit anyway...It could very well void the manufacturers guarantee...I would take no unit new and accept modified by A contractor to later find the warranty is void later on. You also should have some of the loan money in "escrow" untill final as most do.. Also go to the agency that financed the loan and use that to your advantage..DO NOT LET THEM MODIFY THIS UNIT..I WOULD ACCEPT ONLY A NEW 14 SEER AS THEY CONTRACTED TO DO... you order Steak don't accept liver!!!
