How to control blower fan speed on my furnace?
Hi,
I have a Ruud Achiever 90 + furnace.
Firstly, where can I find which exact model of furnace it is - it's not handily written on the outside.
Secondly, can I choose what fan speed the blower runs at when heating? How do I do this? Can the thermostat request different speeds?
If it's the furnace that decides, how does it do it?
At present the furnace runs hard for short periods, resulting in hot then cold spells - I suspect this means it's over powered for the house, I thought if I lower the blower speed the heat might be more even, but will I likely trip the over temperature cutout?

This is best left to an experienced heat/cool mechanic. Yes, on many furnaces there are options for blower speed, however this is done by changing wiring or programing on the unit.
Some units have a 2 or 3 stage blower, which means they start up on a lower speed and gradually increase. This keeps start up noise to a minimum and is less noticeable.
Look in yellow pages for a Rudd dealer and ask how much service call would be to come out and look at your unit. Clear out everything around your furnace in preparation for this mechanics visit.
The most important thing here is asking how much the service call will be prior to calling them.
Expect to pay $50-$75 for the visit + labor time involved to analyze the options available to you.
