How can I check a motor start/run capacitor for correct operation.?
I have a motor that I suspect has a bad start and/or run capicitor and would like to repair it myself if possiable. This motor is used on a small air compressor.

First make sure the capacitor is discharged.( Connect a large screwdriver across the terminals of the capacitor).
Using an analog ohmmeter set to the 100K or 1000K scale,connect its leads across the capacitor, the ohmmeter needle should make a fast movement upscale and, after a very short time, should start moving slowly downscale toward the "0" value.This shows a good capacitor.Hope this help.
