Draining Whynter portable AC unit?
I am getting a Whynter 14000 BTU eco-friendly dual-hose exhaust portable air conditioner. It normally does not require draining (and in fact only has about a pint of internal condensate storage, per Whynter), but because I am in a high humidity area i have been told it WILL collect water.
A. Does anyone know how often this will happen (i live in a VERY humid area in the mid-south)?
B. How the heck am i going to drain it (the drain hole is at the bottom) without moving it?
A: Very often. Plan on a contingency to drain it daily or several times a day if it will be running constantly.
B. You will need to devise a system so it can drain. Get four cinder blocks and position the unit on top of them, locate drain plug. It should be a threaded fitting (most are), drain what is in the reservoir and go to the hardware store for a 90 dg MNPT barb fitting, hose clamps and polyethylene tubing to make your drain hose.
